Child and Adolescent Counselling
There are many benefits of counselling for children and their families. Therapy can assist parents and children to learn new skills and ways to communicate in the family, build emotional regulation, and facilitate positive changes in the brain within a safe expressive environment.
Our Treehouse therapists engage you as the parent to be a 'co-therapist' to support your child. Working with parents is a wonderful way to develop a sense of safety, self-compassion, and self-esteem in our children.
Treehouse Child and Perinatal Services offers support to children, parents and families with concerns relating (but not limited to)
Behavioural concerns
Anxiety disorders
School related concerns
Sleep difficulties / nightmares
Trauma / grief and loss
Family separation
Attachment and relationship concerns
Depression
Sensory disorders
Autism Spectrum Disorder
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Once a parent intake is completed, your therapist will meet with you and your child to explore creating a therapeutic plan and tailor one-on-one therapy counselling sessions to work through their concerns and learn effective strategies and tools.
Our therapists work closely with you as the parent to provide feedback on how your child is going in therapy, and will also teach you strategies learned in sessions so that skills can be translated from the counselling context to home and school.
Treehouse Child and Perinatal Services provides a child friendly space, which includes access to an indoor sensory therapy space and an outdoor sensory garden with our treehouse secret garden art mural. Safe and Sound Protocol Program
“Think, feel, and connect better through nervous system regulation”
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a powerful listening therapy designed to help regulate the nervous system, so you can better connect with yourself, others and the world around you.
The Safe and Sound Protocol is based on Polyvagal Theory, developed by Dr Stephen Porges. This non-invasive intervention involves listening to music that has been processed specifically to retune the nervous system to introduce a sense of safety and the ability to socially engage. This allows a person to better interpret not only human speech but, importantly, the emotional meaning of language. Once interpersonal interactions improve, spontaneous social behaviours and an enhanced ability to learn, self-regulate and engage are often seen.
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is safe, effective, enjoyable for children, adolescents and adults and proven to:
Decrease anxiety and trauma-related behaviours
Decrease auditory sensitivities
Enhance social engagement and participation
Improve emotional regulation
Increase resilience
Improve attention
Improve ability to focus at school
Promote a calmer emotional and physiological state
The SSP may be helpful in reducing symptoms and supporting overall health and resiliency for people seeking support for:
Depression and anxiety
Neurodevelopmental differences, such as autism, hyperactivity and attention
Learning difficulties
Sensory processing differences
Trauma history
And more
Accessing the Program at Treehouse Child and Perinatal Services

You can listen to the music of SSP either in person at the Treehouse office with one of our certified therapists or remotely from the comfort of your own home, allowing for flexibility and ease. Our Treehouse team will collaborate with you on a listening plan that works for you.

The aim of supervision is to enhance the professional skills and competence of practitioners and thereby strengthening their capacities to achieve positive outcomes for the people with whom they work. Engaging in supervision provides ongoing professional learning that enhances capacities to respond effectively to complex and changing practice environments.
Rebecca, the Director and Accredited Mental Health Social Worker provides professional and clinical supervision to a range of professionals including social workers, counsellors, chaplains and community health workers.
